LOC Briefing No. 2) IAMCR-2013 Conference, Dublin

Only a few days until we welcome you to Dublin for IAMCR2013!

We are so looking forward to hosting you for IAMCR2013. This bulletin is to give you some travel, IT and general information to make your journey and stay more hassle-free.

The conference commences at 5.30pm on Tuesday 25th June, with a very special and unusually exciting opening event. On that evening, not only will you have a chance to meet each other and reconnect, but also to hear the President of Ireland give his address. This will be followed by a taster of Irish food and culture.

To make sure you can participate in this event, please register at our Registration desks on ground floor of the Helix building on Tuesday afternoon. There you can formally register and also collect your conference bag, copy of the programme as well as your ID-Badge and tickets for meals and all events.

The Registration desks will be open from 2.00pm till 5.15pm that day, and they re-open again at 8.00 on Wednesday morning. If you are staying on campus, you may register at the accommodation reception - see update (3) below.

1. Update to programme online

Our print programmes have arrived hot off the press, but as always there are some changes. We have incorporated those changes to date in an update to our online programme available here.

2. Transport

Arriving in Dublin Airport?

If you need help on travel to your hotel on arrival, go to the tourist information desks. These desks are located in Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. General assistance is also available at the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) Customer Care staff and the DAA information desk located on the arrivals level.

Taxis can be hired from taxi ranks just outside the arrivals hall.

The DCU shuttle will depart from the coach park between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 - see below for full schedule.

Buses serving Dublin Airport depart from outside the arrivals area, follow signage for buses in the airport.

Getting to Dublin City University

By conference shuttle

Monday 24th and Tuesday 25th

The conference organisers will provide a free shuttle service from the airport to the Helix in DCU. The bus will be branded with the DCU logo and depart from the coach park once per hour on the hour during the following periods.

Monday 24th June: 4pm to 10pm (4pm, 5pm, 6pm, 7pm, 8pm, 9pm, 10pm)

Tuesday 25th June: 9am to 9pm (9am, 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm, 4pm, 5pm, 6pm, 7pm, 8pm, 9pm)

By Public Transport - Dublin Bus

From the Airport: Dublin Bus routes 16, 41 and 41B travel from the airport to the DCU area.
Get off the bus at Collins Avenue Extension (ask the Driver as there are no announcements). Cross the road at the junction - follow the signpost to DCU, the main entrance to DCU is a 10 minute walk along Collins Avenue.

Taxis are available from the forecourts directly outside Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Passengers should follow Taxi signage to the designated taxi ranks. A taxi dispatcher is available at either taxi rank if you require any further information or assistance. Fare to DCU approx: €15 to €20.

Getting to Dublin city centre

By Public Transport - Dublin Bus

Dublin Airport is accessible by over 1,000 buses and coaches daily. From the airport, you can reach many areas in and around Dublin. These buses pick up passengers from the Zones indicated below. Passengers should follow the signs for the relevant zone from Terminal 1 or Terminal 2.

The most direct routes to the city centre the Dublin Bus number 747 Airlink, and the Aircoach service.

747: This route offers an express service to O’Connell Street in the city centre fare: €6:00 single/ €10.00 return.

Aircoach: express service to the city centre with stops in Drumcondra, O’Connell Street and Grafton Street fare: €7.00 single/€12.00 return.

Dublin bus numbers 16 (to O’Connell Street and Grafton Street areas) and 41 (to O’Connell Street area) run to the city centre, fare to City Centre: €2.80 *note EURO COINS ONLY! Dublin Bus drivers do not take bank notes or give you change.

Taxi services at other times

Dublin is covered by the Hailo smartphone app. You can use Hailo to hail a taxi, get realtime information on the location of your taxi, and full driver information. You can pay your driver in cash, or by credit card through the Hailo app. Click here for information about Hailo and for links to download the app.

If you prefer to call a taxi, DCU recommends express taxis. You can call them on (+353) 1 855 3333.

We suggest that you request pickups for all taxis at the Helix.

3. Accommodation

For those delegates arriving to on-campus accommodation on Monday, please be advised that for your convenience, you can register for the conference in the accommodation reception on Monday. For those of you arriving on Tuesday, all registrations for the conference are taking place in the Helix.

Opening hours of the accommodation reception are 7.30am – 10.00pm. Security operate from the security window in the sports reception from 10.00pm – 7.30am for any late arrivals or departures to DCU accommodation.

Delegates who are staying in campus accommodation at DCU are advised to bring their own ethernet cable as Wifi access is unavailable in accommodation buildings.

4. Security

You are advised to please wear your conference badge at all times during the conference. Please have your badge available if campus security requests it for access to any event. Replacement badges can be purchased at a cost of €20.

5. Lunches

As part of your registration, you will be provided with colour-coded lunch vouchers either for the main restaurant or the Helix. Please note the colour of your voucher and proceed to the restaurant that has been assigned to you. Vouchers will be collected at the entrance to the restaurants so please make sure you have those with you to obtain your lunch.

6. ICT matters and Your presentation

We will be supplying a dedicated wifi network for the conference. This network will be open to all registered delegates. If you are an Eduroam user, you may also avail of Eduroam on campus.

8. Spouse, Partner or Fiancée accompanying you to Dublin?

If you are a registered attendee at the IAMCR conference in Dublin and if your Spouse, Partner or Fiancée is accompanying you to Dublin and you wish to be able to bring him/her to one of the social events, then you will be able to purchase a special Ticket. This will cost 50 Euro and will enable you to bring your Spouse, Partner or Fiancée to the social events planned for the Tuesday and Friday evenings, 25 and 28 June. You can pay for this ticket at registration.
